Nintendo Makes the Move to Mobile

Though most video game publishers and developers made their software available on mobile years ago, Nintendo was the biggest name that refused to bring their wares to iOS and Android.

In a way, Nintendo was like AC/DC. The band held out against changing tide of physical sales vs. digital downloads, in the same way Nintendo was steadfast in keeping Mario, Luigi and its various princesses on its game platforms.

However, in the same way AC/DC eventually did give in to putting its tracks up for download, Nintendo just announced its games will make the move to smartphones and tablets. The more cynical might say that money talked in both deals, but Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said the mobile games will be a way to upsell casual gamers to the Wii U and 3DS.

The company will be working with Japanese mobile developer DeNA. The company also announced that it’s working on a new console, the NX.
