Drones Warned Not to Mess with Texas during Austin’s SXSW

Austin’s SXSW festival is all about what’s new in music, culture and technology — but organizers are making the event a no-fly zone for drones.

“Believe me, in the state of Texas folks don’t like drones,” Austin police chief Art Acevedo said.

Safety concerns about the devices operating in congested radio frequencies spurred the decision. The Austin police will be on the lookout for the flying machines and may confiscate them, especially in crowded areas. In addition, the FAA proposed rules for commercial use of the devices and is currently accepting public input.
